Historical Walking Tour


English-speaking volunteers walk guests through San Miguel’s glorious past, showing them the city center and its historical buildings and churches. The tour takes approximately 2 ½ hours, covers a ten-block area, and is mostly level walking. It is a definite “must” for any visitor to San Miguel!

Regularly scheduled tours take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Groups meet in the Jardin across from the Parroquia (large church) at 9:45 AM, and leave at 10:00 AM. Donation: 300 pesos (cash)

Your donation supports the work of Patronato Pro Niños
and has since 1995. The donations from the tours make a substantial financial contribution to the work of the organization.

Patronato Pro Niños is a not for profit serving the disadvantaged children of San Miguel since 1970.

Some highlights of the tour include:


>The Parroquia - San Miguel's iconic landmark church
>Casa de Allende - the birthplace of Ignacio Allende, hero of Mexican Independence 
>Casa Canal - the magnificent former home of San Miguel's, one of the most prominent families
>Bellas Artes - once a convent, then San Miguel's first school of art, now a cultural center 
>Vida y Obra de General Ignacio Allende - David Siqueiros' famous unfinished mural
>House of Conspiracies - where the War of Independence was planned

>Architectural Walking Tour

On the third Thursday of each month, we offer a special Architectural Tour of the downtown area. This tour will be of interest to anyone who wants to know more about the fabulous buildings of San Miguel. You’ll view buildings that represent more than 400 years of different architectural styles. It is an architectural area frozen in time with laws to protect it. Your donation goes to support the work of Patronato Pro Niños. (See Who We Are for more information)

>Four Churches Tour

On the fourth Thursday of each month, this tour offers an in depth historical perspective of the paintings, relics, and statuary in four downtown churches:

• The Parroquia

• San Rafael

• San Francisco

• Nuestra Señora de la Salud

Groups meet in the Jardin across from the Parroquia (large church) at 9:45 AM and leave at 10:00 AM on the fourth Thursday of each month

No reservations are necessary, however during busy seasons it is advisable to arrive early
